Tiny CRT's

I remember the first Tiny CRT I ever saw. Dad and I were invited into the back room of a TV repair shop where we were shown a small (at the time) TV picture tube - it was only 5 inches. Of course, this was about the time when 21 inch screens were the most popular.

Since then, I had discovered such goodies as the 2AP1, which I saw for the first time in a scope that dad built as part of his radio & TV course for DeForest's. Later, I was at a friend's house where I noticed the tiniest CRT laying on the bench. It was a 1DP1 - the only CRT I ever saw with a 9 pin base and no exhaust tip. I must have admired it very well because he gave it to me.

Here's the pinout of the 1DP1:

I decided back around 1978 to build a scope with the 1DP1. Here's a picture of it on my bench:

Here's the hand-scrawled schematic, based on the 2" DeForest scope:

The next largest CRT I had was a Cossor, but I sold it recently.

This isn't exactly a tiny CRT, but I can honestly tell people that I have an Emmy.
