Hallicrafters

Hallicrafters is best known for Amateur equipment, but they came out with a TV back in the days of Channel One.

$169 may not seem like a lot of money today, but most well-to-do people were taking home about $40. a week. Getting up the money to buy one of those new-fangled tv sets wasn't easy. If you were lucky enough to own one, chances are you'd have about 30 people in your living room watching a 7 inch picture. My parents did.

This particular set had been sitting around for a long time. After I got it, I spent some time replacing all of the paper capacitors and all of the carbon resistors which were out of tolerance.

The only part which I didn't get going was the HV oscillator. With the help of an external HV supply, the TV did produce a fairly good picture.

One of the fascinating things about this set is the sweep circuits - the vertical and horizontal sections are pretty much identical except for the time constants.
